Living without a steady paycheck the past several months, I've learned to curb my frivolous spending pretty well (At least that's what I tell myself is the reason I haven't bought new clothes or had a haircut in almost 3 months, although I haven't quite learned how to rationalize the expensive meals yet). This weekend, however, I was at Costco and I couldn't help but pickup some fun items.
#1: Guitar Hero 2 for the Xbox 360. I bought GH2 for my brother for christmas last year, and I thought it was awesome, but I don't have a playstation, so I never got it for myself. Now, they've got it for the 360, and I couldn't resist. It's really fun, and I played it for about 8 hours in the past two days, which is probably more than I've played the xbox total since I got it.
#2: Speakers that look like rocks. You know the ones.. Brooke always makes fun of them, but this time I was at Costco by myself, and thinking about how nice it'd be to have some music in the yard. They're kind of cheesy up close, but now that they're out in the garden, you can barely tell they're not regular rocks.
The other find of the weekend was when we were at Brooke's mom's house for Easter today. She had a box of records (the 12" vinyl kind..) that were going to be given away to a yard sale, and I probably picked out about 50 of them; which are all original classic rock and country albums ( beatles, rolling stones, doors, johnny cash, bob dylan, csny, merle haggard, etc..) and a bunch of christmas records, including the Care Bears Christmas! I'm really excited about the Christmas ones, because even though we have a lot of the same music digitized, Christmas to me is sitting around in a sweater, sipping a hot drink, and playing old records on the turntable.
This post of songs about L.A. got me thinking of songs about Seattle (and surroundings). A few good ones came to mind..
#1 Sir Mix-A-Lot, Seattle Ain't Bullshittin'. -- shout outs to lots of locations around town that you probably won't see in a guide book.
#2 Sir Mix-A-Lot, Posse on Broadway. -- what Seattleite can't relate to:"I was born in the S-E-A- double T - L - E, Seattle, born in the C.D. Nigga.. 19th and Yesler"
"Go on back the other way, we'll stop and eat at Dick's"
#3 Perry Como, Seattle. -- this guy is way too happy, must have been summer time.
"The bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle. And the hills the greenest green, in Seattle"
#4 Neko Case, Trice All American -- we saw her play this live at bumbershoot once, and she said something like "you know you never even liked tacoma before this song"..
" I want to tell you about my hometown. It's a dusty old jewel in the South Puget Sound. Well the factories churn and the timbers all cut down..."
#5 West Valley Highway, Marysville -- An old friend of mine is in this band, whose band name is a road down south of Seattle, and who's debut album is named for a town up north.
"she's just a short stretch of a railroad town that never made a map. I think if Mary was still with us man she'd probably give it back just to show, that it ain't worth the powder to blow her up"
Anyone else got some?
Question of the Day
What song was the number one song on the charts the day you were born? How about the day you turned 21? What do you think about the song?

Week Ending September 11, 1976:
"(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty" by KC and the Sunshine Band
The country was in quite a festive mood apparently. A week before it would have been "You should be dancing" by the Bee Gees, and a week later "Play that funky music" by wild cherry.
Week Ending September 6th, 1997:
Mo Money, Mo Problems by The Notorious B.I.G. featuring Puff Daddy and Ma$e
This was Puff Daddy's 13th consecutive week at #1. Puffy/B.I.G combined were #1 for 22 weeks that year.
